DOES VAPING LEAD TO NECK PAIN?

Vaping is one of the latest trends in tobacco use. It involves inhaling vapor from devices known as electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). The technology is so new scientists still haven’t done enough studies regarding the health effects of long-term vaping. They could be marginally safer than tobacco, or they could be just another tactic to get a new generation of smokers addicted to nicotine.

Lack of Data

Because of the significant lack of data, the vaping industry is doing incredibly well. Today, the industry is worth more than a billion dollars, and according to current projections, it is on track to outsell other tobacco products within the next ten years.

The FDA still hasn’t issued any regulations or guidelines about the health effects of vaping. Preliminary tests have shown the amount of chemicals present in e-cigarettes are a fraction of what would normally be in a traditional cigarette.

Neck Pain and Vaping

Additionally, many e-cigarette users have experienced neck pain and headaches after vaping, especially after the first three months of using. While not officially listed as a side effect, investigation into the matter has determined that muscle aches are a recognized side effect of vaping. There has been no insight into what is causing the problem exactly, but some theorize the propylene glycol in the vape is metabolized into lactic acid and is causing pain. If lactic acid is produced as a result of vaping, the muscle pain wouldn’t be a surprise, as studies have also shown lactic acid may be responsible for muscle pain in fibromyalgia patients.
